Can We Talk Lyrics – Tevin Campbell

Can We talk – Last night I
I saw you standing
And I started
Started pretending
I knew you and you knew me too
And just like a Roni
You were too shy
But you weren’t the only
‘Cause so was I
And I’ve dreamed of you ever since
Now I’ve built up my confidence
Girl next
Next time you come my way
I’ll know just what to say

Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name

I started
To write you letters
But I wanted
To be more clever
I wanted to get down and sweet talk you
Hey baby
But just like a baby I could not talk
And I tried to come closer but could not walk
And I think of it every night
How I just could not get it right
If we ever come close again
I know what I’ll say then, yeah

Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name

Oh, girl
One more chance
With you again
I will not let it go
Oh, please
Give me just one more chance
For love, love, love, love

Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name

Can we talk for a minute?
Come on and talk to me baby
Say I want to know
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?

I said can we talk for a minute
Come on and talk to me baby
See I wanna know
You better tell your name, baby

Can we talk for a minute?
I said talk to me for a minute
Come and talk for a minute
I wanna know, I wanna know
I wanna know your name

Can we talk for a minute?
Talk to me for a minute
Come and talk for a minute
Come on, come on, come on and talk to me, yeah

About Tevin Campbell

Tevin Campbell is considered a child sensation in Texas, but there are some disputes over who actually discovered him. Some accounts attribute the work to flutist Bobbi Humphrey, but much of the publicity material attributes it to Quincy Jones. In late 1989, Campbell first got noticed by music fans when he appeared in Jones’ LP Back on the Block, appearing on the song Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me) that reached number one on the R&B charts in June 1990. A former Jones protégé, Michael Jackson, felt right at home with Campbell’s high, supple tenor. His gold-certified song, “Round and Round,” was written by Prince for him and featured in Prince’s Graffiti Bridge film later that year. After singing “Just Ask Me To,” the Top Ten R&B hit from Boyz in the Hood’s soundtrack, he appeared on other soundtracks in the summer of 1991. Despite all of this, T.E.V.I.N., his debut album released in 1991, went platinum and produced two R&B chart-toppers “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do” and “Alone with You,” as well as “Goodbye,” the R&B Top Five hit. After two years, I’m Ready went platinum and featured three R&B chart hits, including the number one “Can We Talk,” the number five “I’m Ready,” and the top ten song “Always in My Heart.” However, 1996’s Back to the World didn’t sell as well, and 1999’s Tevin Campbell was a complete failure. During the first quarter of 2001, a compilation package was released.
