If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Lord, make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother
She’ll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors
Oh, and life ain’t always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain’t even gray, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I’ve had just enough time
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I’ve had just enough time
And I’ll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom
I’m as green as the ring on my little cold finger
I’ve never known the lovin’ of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand
There’s a boy here in town, says he’ll love me forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best, boys, and I’ll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I’ll sell ’em for a dollar
They’re worth so much more after I’m a goner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words I’ve been singin’
Funny when you’re dead, how people start listenin’
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Oh-oh, (oh-oh)
The ballad of a dove
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep ’em in your pocket
Save ’em for a time when you’re really gonna need ’em, oh
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best, boys, and I’ll wear my pearls
About Band Parry
The Band Perry combine elements of country, pop, and rock into an earthy sound that is both fresh and familiar, and the group is comprised of siblings Kimberly Perry (lead singer, guitar, and piano), Reid Perry (bass guitar), and Neil Perry (drums, mandolin, and accordion). Although the siblings in Mobile, Alabama had sung together at home and as part of various bands and configurations throughout their childhood years, they had officially formed the group during the summer of 2005. As a 15 year old girl, Kimberly with dazzling vocal skills, who is blessed with a fiery and expressive voice, joined her first band and fronted it when she was only 15 years old, enlisting her brothers, Reid (ten years old) and Neil (eight years old) as roadies. In the end, the two brothers formed a band and often worked as the opening act for their sister Kelly as well as performing in their own band. It was still the three of them who sang together at home, seemingly always perfecting their three-part harmony style, and even sometimes composing songs of their own.
Life and Career of Parry
The three joined forces as a working band in 2005, and the group took part in the New Faces of Country tour. It was three years later when the threesome met Garth Brooks’ manager Bob Doyle, who was impressed with what he heard from the threesome and moved the threesome into the studio so they could work on songs. As soon as these recordings were completed, Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen, of the recently formed Republic Nashville label, contacted the band, and they quickly signed the band in the summer of 2009. As of November of the same year, the Band Perry released their debut single, “Hip to My Heart,” and they began working with producers Nathan Chapman and Paul Worley on their debut album, which will be released in December. An EP by the band entitled “Devices” was released in May 2012 which was followed by a full-length album by the same name later on in the year.
This album’s number one singles “If I Die Young” and “All Your Life” were the top country hits of 2010, while “You Lie” also reached the Top Ten. The Band Perry’s singles kept them on the charts into 2012, when the trio began recording a second album with Rick Rubin, a new producer. They ditched Rubin during the sessions and hired producer Dann Huff, who produced Pioneer, which appeared in April 2013. “Better Dig Two” and “Done” were the number one singles on the album. Months of touring were conducted across North America and Western Europe to support the album, which topped the country charts, reached number two on the Billboard 200, and was also the number two hit on the country chart. Following this, their cover of John Hartford’s “Gentle on My Mind,” a song that had won Glen Campbell two Grammys in 1968, appeared on the soundtrack of Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. Best Country Duo/Group Performance went to the Band Perry version in 2015.
Despite the release of the single “Live Forever” in mid-2015, the trio left Republic for Mercury/Interscope and announced a gradual switch to pop music. It reached just inside the Top 40 in 2016 when “Comeback Kid” was released. As early as 2017, the Band Perry announced that their third studio album would be titled My Bad Imagination, followed by the single “Stay in the Dark.” The album, however, never materialized, and by summer 2018, the band parted ways with Mercury/Interscope. It was released by their own Artrat record label in September 2018, featuring Rick Rubin’s production. As part of the release, there was an electronic-tinged single titled “Nostalgia.” A standalone track, “The Good Life,” was released in July 2019.
