Love In The Dark Lyrics – Adele

Take your eyes off of me so I can leave
I’m far too ashamed to do it with you watching me
This is never ending, we have been here before
But I can’t stay this time ’cause I don’t love you anymore

Please, stay where you are
Don’t come any closer
Don’t try to change my mind
I’m being cruel to be kind

I can’t love you in the dark
It feels like we’re oceans apart
There is so much space between us
Baby, we’re already defeated
Ah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Everything changed me

You have given me something that I can’t live without
You mustn’t underestimate that when you are in doubt
But I don’t want to carry on like everything is fine
The longer we ignore it, all the more that we will fight

Please, don’t fall apart
I can’t face your breaking heart
I’m trying to be brave
Stop asking me to stay

I can’t love you in the dark
It feels like we’re oceans apart
There is so much space between us
Baby, we’re already defeated
Ah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Everything changed me

We’re not the only ones, I don’t regret a thing
Every word I’ve said, you know I’ll always mean
It is the world to me that you are in my life
But I want to live and not just survive

That’s why I can’t love you in the dark
It feels like we’re oceans apart
There is so much space between us
Baby, we’re already defeated
‘Cause, ah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Everything changed me

And I-I-I-I-I don’t think you can save me

About Adele

She is an English pop singer and songwriter best known for her soulful voice and traditionally crafted songs. She was born May 5, 1988, in Tottenham, London, England.

A young single mother raised Adkins in various working-class neighborhoods in London. The clarinet and guitar were among the instruments she learned to play as a child. Yet it wasn’t until her early teens that she began to consider a musical career, after discovering rhythm-and-blues singer Etta James. Her friends began posting songs she had written and recorded onto Myspace while she was studying performing arts at a government-funded secondary school. Several months after graduating, her music caught the attention of record labels, and she signed a contract with XL Recordings in 2006.

Career

Adele (as she is now known) released her first album, 19, in 2008, after building anticipation with some well-received live performances. In the title, she refers to the age at which she composed most of the tracks. The recording debuted at number one on the British album chart, and critics praised Adele’s supple phrasing, her tasteful arrangements, and her ability to channel her intimate emotional experiences (especially heartbreak) into songs that had wide resonance. A young British singer also prominently influenced by soul music, Amy Winehouse, was compared to her. However, Adele’s zaftig figure and easygoing persona made her a more relatable star for many fans. Adele was introduced to American audiences by her performance on Saturday Night Live, and in early 2009 she won the Grammy Award for best new artist and best female pop vocal performance (for the lush bluesy song “Chasing Pavements”).

In collaboration with Rick Rubin, Adele gathered a number of songwriters and producers for her next album. The result, 21 (2011), was a bolder and more stylistically diverse set of material, ranging from the earthy gospel- and disco-infused “Rolling in the Deep” to the affecting breakup ballad “Someone like You.” Adele’s album became the biggest-selling release of the year both in the United States and in the United Kingdom despite a vocal-cord ailment forcing Adele to cancel numerous tour dates in 2011. Both songs reached number one in multiple countries. Moreover, it was credited with helping revive the flagging recording industry with worldwide sales of more than 20 million copies by mid-2012.

The Grammy Awards ceremony took place after Adele’s successful throat surgery. As well as the album and record awards, she also won Grammy trophies for song and album of the year for “Rolling in the Deep.” In addition, two Brit Awards (the British equivalent of the Grammy) were also given to her. After both events, 21 sales spiked further confirming the singer’s status as a commercial juggernaut. A Grammy and an Academy Award were won by Adele in 2013 for her brassy theme song for the blockbuster James Bond movie Skyfall, which was included on her concert album Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2011). Her distinction was later recognized with the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
