You’re a good soldier, choosing your battles
Pick yourself up and dust yourself off, get back in the saddle
You’re on the frontline, everyone’s watching
You know it’s serious, we’re getting closer, this isn’t over
The pressure’s on, you feel it
But you got it all, believe it
When you fall get up, oh, oh
And if you fall get up, eh, eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa ’cause this is Africa
Tsamina mina, eh, eh
Waka waka, eh, eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa
Listen to your God, this is our motto
Your time to shine, don’t wait in line, y vamos por todo
People are raising their expectations
Go on and feed them, this is your moment, no hesitation
Today’s your day, I feel it
You paved the way, believe it
If you get down get up, oh, oh
When you get down get up, eh, eh
Tsamina mina zangalewa
This time for Africa

About Shakira
In the early 2000s, Shakira was one of the most successful Latin American recording artists, achieving success in both Spanish- and English-speaking markets.
Originally from Colombia, Shakira’s father was Lebanese, while her mother was Colombian. At age 10, she began writing poetry and participating in talent competitions. Shakira was signed to a Sony Corp. record deal in 1990 after landing an audition with a local theatre producer. It is noteworthy, however, that Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993) were only moderately successful albums. Pies descalzos (1995) summarized Shakira’s music career in an impressive fashion after she took a break from recording to act in the Latin soap opera El oasis.
Albums and Career
Shakira released Where Are the Thieves? A number of memorable singles were released in 1998. In addition to the Latin Grammy Award, she was also awarded the award for best female pop vocal performance (“Ojos As Is”) and for best rock vocal performance (“Eighth Day”). After establishing herself in the American market, she focused on expanding internationally. It was in 2001 that she released her first English-language album, Laundry Service, after winning the Grammy Award for best Latin pop album with MTV Unplugged (2000). Even though Shakira wrote all her own lyrics for Laundry Service, her English songwriting skills were questioned by some.
With the release of Oral Fixation, vol. 2, Shakira continued her crossover success. On 1st June and the English language with Oral Fixation, Vol. number 2 in November. In 2006, both of her albums debuted in the top five in the United States, and her single “Hips Don’t Lie” (featuring Wyclef Jean) reached the top of the charts worldwide. Oral Fixation, vol. 1, and “La Torture” are her songs. During that year’s Latin Grammys, the song won song of the year and record of the year. In addition to winning a Grammy for best Latin rock/alternative album, it also won a Grammy for a best female pop vocal album. This was followed by a live recording, Oral Fixation Tour, in 2007. At the 2011 Live Earth festival, Shakira performed in Hamburg to promote climate change and environmental sustainability.
The electro-pop sound of Shakira’s next English-language album, She Wolf (2009), was a departure from her previous work. As the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” became another international hit for her in 2012. In 2010, she released her breezy, eclectic album Sale el sol, which won her a Latin Grammy for the best female pop vocal album. On The Voice, an American televised singing show, Shakira coached contestants from 2013-2014. She is also the winner of two Latin Grammy Awards, one for best Latin pop album and one for the best contemporary pop vocal album, for her two later albums, Shakira (2014) and El Dorado (2017). Additionally, El Dorado featured a duet with Carlos Vives called “La Bicicleta” which won Latin Grammy awards for best record of the year and best song of the year. They performed at the halftime show of the 2020 Super Bowl.
